“O villain, villain, smiling, damned villain!
My tables — meet it is I set it down,
That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain;
At least I’m sure it may be so in Denmark” – Hamlet
In 1933, a group of wealthy industrialists plotted to overthrow the government of the United States. Their plan was to raise a private army of disgruntled war veterans a half million strong to force Franklin Roosevelt to accept a “minder” into his cabinet.
On November 22, 1963 on the streets of Dallas Texas, the President of the United States was murdered in an open car by persons unknown in a successful coup d’état. A bullet wound tore the President’s scalp from just above his ear towards the back of his head. A large piece of the President’s cranium was retrieved from the trunk lid of the car, yet we are told the President was killed by a lone gunman firing from behind the motorcade.
Just 69 days after being sworn in to office in 1981, an attempt was made on the life of Ronald Reagan. A lone gunman shot the President as he walked out the front door of the Washington D.C. Hilton hotel. I’ll repeat; a lone gunman shot the President as he walked out the front door of the Washington D.C. Hilton hotel. Reagan and fellow shooting victim James Brady are rushed to the hospital, yet despite their limousines leaving the scene at approximately the same time, the car carrying the President, “got lost” on the way to the hospital in the driver’s home town, arriving fifteen minutes later than the car containing Press Secretary James Brady. Reagan was x-rayed three times as he coughed up blood; doctors reported Reagan had almost bled to death… almost.
Secretary of State Alexander Haig had complained bitterly to Reagan’s press secretary Brady that someone in the administration was undermining his communications and his relations with the President. As the Vice President was out of town at the time of the shooting, Secretary of State Haig spoke directly with George H. W. Bush by phone. The Vice President told Haig that he was in charge of the White House, until he Bush returned in a few hours. Haig chaired a meeting in the situation room ordering an immediate investigation into the shooting. Haig writes in his memoir, “that he was at first adamant that a conspiracy, if discovered, should be ruthlessly exposed: “It was essential that we get the facts and publish them quickly. Rumor must not be allowed to breed on this tragedy. Remembering the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination, I said to Woody Goldberg, ‘No matter what the truth is about this shooting, the American people must know it.’”
Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger reported to the group that there was a NORAD (North American Air Defense Command) exercise scheduled for the following morning simulating an incoming missile attack. Weinberger along with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff agree and cancel the exercise. At this point, James Baker told the room there was also a planned FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) exercise scheduled for the following day, code named ‘Nine Lives’ which dealt with, of all things, a Presidential succession emergency. Immediately, ‘Nine Lives’ was also cancelled by the assembled.
The President of the United States lies gravely wounded in a downtown hospital, the accused shooter sits in a jail cell after only the most rudimentary questioning. The Vice President enters the situation room after landing at Andrews Air Force Base and according to Weinberger, “At almost exactly 7:00, the Vice President came into the situation Room and very calmly assumed the chair at the head of the table. The first item which the Vice President wanted to discuss was the need for someone to sign the dairy farm support bill the next day so as to reassure the public.”
Don Regan remembers it, that the Vice President entered the room with Attorney General Ed Meese who had met Bush at the airport when he landed to “fill him in on details.” Bush, Regan said, “asked for a condition report: 1) on the President; 2) on the other wounded; 3) on the assailant; 4) on the international scene. After the reports were given it was determined that there were no international complications and no domestic conspiracy, it was decided that the US government would carry on business as usual. The Vice President would go on TV from the White House to reassure the nation and to demonstrate that he was in charge.”
With no investigation, with only the barest knowledge of the shooter’s background, without any investigation into possible connections to foreign intelligence services, the Vice President cancels the investigation which Al Haig had begun. Then as Weinberger recalls, “Attorney General William French Smith nodded in agreement with Bush, reporting all FBI reports concurred with the information I had received; that the shooting was a completely isolated incident and that the assassin, John Hinckley, with a previous record in Nashville, seemed to be a ‘Bremmer’ type.”
Arthur Bremmer was the attempted assassin of Alabama Governor George Wallace. Bremmer comes to us from a long line of lone nuts with guns. He follows in the footsteps of Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray and Sirhan Sirhan. The lone nut with a gun is almost a free pass for law enforcement. No one can be held responsible or cashiered for the actions of a lone nut with a gun. The lone nut with a gun also guarantees no need for a detailed investigation. The shooter was after all, just a lone nut with a gun, a crazy person. What else do you really need to know?
Lee Harvey Oswald had defected to the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War promising to reveal radar secrets to the Soviets. Inexplicably, he is accepted back into the United States along with his Russian bride. Lone nut assassin James Earl Ray’s largest past crime was robbing a grocery store. He was arrested for the crime within an hour. He escaped from state prison in 1967 and lived in Mexico under an assumed name trying his hand at making porn films. He returns to Atlanta and yet while unemployed and living as an escaped prisoner, Ray packs his bag and drives to Memphis checking into a boarding house across from the Loraine Motel. Ray is driving a Mustang less than two years old and purchases not one, but two high powered rifles from Aeromarine Supply Company. After the shooting, Ray is arrested in London in possession of two forged passports.
Arthur Bremmer was a good student in school with a high IQ. After school he worked as a bus boy and living on a bus boy’s salary purchases a $90.00 Charter Arms 38 caliber revolver. On November 18, 1971, Bremmer was arrested for carrying a concealed handgun and for being double parked. A court-appointed psychiatrist declared Bremer mentally ill but sane. Bremer underwent psychotherapy and was released on a $38.50 fine on December 8, after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct. Do you know who else underwent psychotherapy?
That lone nut with a gun named John Hinckley Jr.
John Hinckley Jr. was the son of wealthy parents, his father John Hinckley Senior was Chairman and President of Vanderbilt Energy and lived in Dallas, Texas before moving to Colorado. John Hinckley Jr. was a good student and was elected class president twice. After shooting President Reagan in the one venue in the United States most accepting of the insanity defense, Hinckley is tried and found not guilty, by reason of insanity and confined to St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Washington.
After less than twenty years of confinement, a forensic psychologist at the hospital testifies that “Hinckley has recovered to the point that he poses no imminent risk of danger to himself or others.” Other men, less well connected, often spend twenty years languishing in prison doing hard time for holding up a Seven Eleven. John Hinckley Jr. shoots the President of the United States and is granted unsupervised home visits after fifteen years. He sure was fortunate his family was so wealthy and so well connected, but just how well connected were the Hinckley’s?
In January of 1981, the Department of Energy begins a routine audit of Vanderbilt Energy, accusing Vanderbilt of price gouging and warning of a potential penalty of two million dollars.
Bell Western Corporation had merged with Vanderbilt Energy in 1978 and both were later purchased in 1984 by Devon Energy. John Hinckley Sr. went on to lead World Vision. World Vision was founded in1950 as an evangelical relief and development organization, their credo, “to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God.”
Aside from preaching the good news in their spare time, World Vision had been accused of training Cuban refugees for the Bay of Pigs invasion and training Hmong guerillas during the Vietnam War. World Vision trained Nicaraguan and El Salvadorian guerillas fighting for the Contras in Latin America. It was in the Palestinian refugee camps operated by World Vision in Lebanon, where the Israeli backed Phalangist Christians massacred over 2000[*] women and children in 1982.
What a strange job for a Texas oil man like Hinckley to take. Except, the most prevalent rumor circulating about World Vision was that it was actually a CIA front organization. A really damn brilliant idea if you want to know what the Palestinian refugees are up to? Well, if you operate the refugee camps it becomes a relatively easy matter, doesn’t it? Want to train insurgents to subvert lawful governments and import weapons in Latin America? A Christian charity organization would be the perfect cover, don’t you think?
The Manchurian Candidate is a 1959 political thriller written by Richard Condon. The plot involves the son of a prominent political family who is kidnapped, drugged and brainwashed into becoming an unwitting assassin in an attempt to overthrow of the US government. The fictional account was based on news reports of Chinese brainwashing of American prisoners during the Korean War.
In 1953, CIA director Allan Dulles appointed Dr. Harold Wolff, a clinical psychiatrist, to conduct an official study of communist brainwashing techniques for the CIA. Wolff contacts Lawrence Hinkle from Cornell Medical College and with the full permission of university officials, Wolff & Hinkle begin pouring over the CIA’s files of Chinese and Soviet Brain washing techniques. In a report to Dulles they explain that it was neither drugs or devices, but the simple skillful use of police interrogation tactics. It stated flatly that neither the Soviets nor the Chinese had any magical weapons—no drugs, no exotic mental ray-guns, or any other fanciful machines. Instead, the report depicted communist interrogation methods as resting on the skillful, brutal, application of police methods.
The Soviets would isolate a prisoner while a rotating cadre of guards would humiliate and control every aspect of the prisoner’s life. They would make the prisoner stand for hours on end, control even the position the prisoner slept in, waking him if he moved. All stimuli were banned, further isolating the prisoner until after four or five weeks the prisoner would break down weeping, muttering and mumbling prayers to god.
Night after night for hours on end the prisoner is interrogated; he is asked to describe his role in unnamed crimes; to trip himself up by confessing to crimes which he is not yet accused. The interrogator mentally tears the prisoner apart dissecting every aspect of the prisoner’s life. Eventually the prisoner is so isolated that he realizes the interrogation will only end when he admits to whatever crime the interrogator has chosen. Gladly, he will acquiesce to whatever he is asked, just to make the torture stop.
The interrogator is an authority figure, like a doctor or a clergyman, and therefore the prisoner has in all likelihood now come to identify with his interrogator. Imagine if this prisoner were a young man in his twenties, bright, but socially awkward and isolated; perhaps a young man with a troubled relationship with his parents or even no relationship with his parents. How difficult would it be to create a Manchurian Candidate and how difficult it would be to prove their existence? Yet even more so, with their built-in deniability, how could you ever disprove a Manchurian Candidate?
John Hinckley Senior had made campaign donations to George Bush’s presidential campaign as well as making donations to the house campaign of young George W. Bush. It was a house campaign managed by Neil Bush. Neil Bush was at this time in the oil business and was scheduled to be having dinner with Vanderbilt Energy vice president and brother of the attempted assassin Scott Hinckley on the evening of the shooting. Perhaps all this falderal is for nothing. All meaningless coincidences randomly colliding aimlessly in a disordered universe filled with such coincidences. George H. W. Bush claimed he might have met Hinckley Sr. but had no recollection of it, if he had. Hinckley Sr. told the press he had supported Ronald Reagan during the Presidential campaign.
It is all just so odd really. Odd that all around our world conspiracies rise to the fore and overthrow elected leaders, having ever been so since Brutus slew Caesar. As Hamlet advised, “Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under ‘t.” However, in the United States alone, the assassin is always the lone nut with a gun. Their numbers all fit a similar profile which hangs on them like a cheap suit.
“Hence it comes about that all armed Prophets have been victorious, and all unarmed Prophets have been destroyed.”- Niccolo Machiavelli
Funny thing, do you know who else worked for World Vision as a counselor? John Lennon’s assassin, Mark David Chapman.
The underwear bomber - Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is the son of a Nigerian banker, the son of one of the richest men in Africa; son of the Chairman of the First Bank of Nigeria and former Federal Commissioner for Economic Development in a nation known as the CIA’s playground in Africa. At the age of 21, Abdulmutallab told his parents that he wanted to get married; they refused to allow him to do so on the grounds that he had not earned a master’s degree. On June 12, 2008, Abdulmutallab applied for and received from the U.S. consulate, a U.S. multiple-entry visa, valid to June 12, 2010, with which he visited Houston, Texas, from August 1–17, 2008.

[*] The number of people killed varies depending upon source. Two thousand is a likely minimum and the number may actually be as high as 3500.
