Laura Schleifer

Laura Schleifer created the word 'artivist' to describe her vocation as an artist-activist. An NYU-Tisch graduate writer/theater artist, her work has spanned the Middle East, performing for Palestinian and Iraqi children on a theater/circus tour, to teaching English/drama in Nicaragua, performing her songs and monologues off-Broadway , and arts mentoring NYC homeless and at-risk youth. Her feature screenplay, The Feral Child, was a Sundance Screenwriters Lab finalist. She writes for several magazines, including Looking Glass, Red Channels, and Scenario.

They had come to the U.S.A. in the 1980′s, fleeing the bloody civil war that was ravaging their home country of Nicaragua. They were sent back in 2008.
